Presentation
A presentation and tour was made of PPL's
Susquehanna Steam Electric Station recently
installed low impact stormwater management system.
Installed by LandStudies, Inc, this system of
engineered infiltration trenches, bioswales, and
vegetative buffers is now successfully managing the
255,000 gal per inch of rainfall that comes off the
facility's south parking lot and reducing the peak
runoff flowrate by over 50% (on average) for each
modeled rainfall event.
The presentation consisted of:
-
An overview of low impact
stormwater management methods
-
A summary of PPL's
pre-installation stormwater management / erosion
issues
-
A design description for PPL's
new stormwater management system; benefit$ over
other management approaches
-
A presentation of system
installation photos
Also, at this meeting, an update was
given on Pennsylvania's Energy Independence Strategy
and Governor Rendell's plan to cut energy costs and
stimulate Pennsylvania's economy.
PPL also discussed the preserve
option of building an additional nuclear generating
unit.
