Above & Beyond:

Part 107 - Compliant Drone

Workflows for

Environmental Engineering

February 26, 2026

at 12:00 (Noon) Eastern

Environmental teams are under pressure to collect defensible data faster, safer, and with less site disruption. This session demystifies the end‑to‑end path from earning FAA Part 107 certification to running field‑ready operations. We’ll cover practical airmanship and risk management, mission planning, authorizations, Remote ID considerations, and safety roles - all mapped to standard operating procedures and checklists that keep projects compliant and predictable.

We’ll then translate the workflow into high‑value use cases across Environmental Engineering: wetland delineation and habitat mapping, shoreline and erosion monitoring, stormwater and culvert inspections, landfill volumetrics, spill and hazardous‑site documentation, and post‑storm damage assessment. Attendees will learn how to match platforms and sensors (multirotor vs. fixed‑wing; RGB, LiDAR, thermal, multispectral) to objectives; build QC into data capture (GCPs/checkpoints, accuracy targets); and turn reality‑ outputs - orthomosaics, point clouds, DSM/DTMs, and change detection - into actionable deliverables clients trust.

Presenter: Jason Haynes, PLS - is Associate Vice President and Reality Capture Director at Pennoni, where he leads the firm’s survey and UAS programs and advances the integration of drones, LiDAR, and photogrammetry across environmental and infrastructure projects. A Part 107 Remote Pilot with more than 20 years of hands‑on drone operations and field leadership, Jason has established enterprise SOPs, training pathways, and risk‑managed workflows that translate aerial data into defensible engineering deliverables. His project portfolio spans wetlands and habitat mapping, shoreline and erosion monitoring, stormwater and culvert inspections, landfill volumetrics, emergency response assessments, and complex urban surveys. As a licensed Professional Land Surveyor, he focuses on accuracy, safety, and compliance - turning reality‑capture outputs into decision‑ready insights for clients and communities.
